Where Is Haridwar Bypass Road Located?

The 15.1 km bypass is being built south and east of central Haridwar. It begins near Bahadrabad on the NH-334/old NH-58 side and reaches NH-34 near Chandi Devi Temple.

Bahadrabad is the main western reference, while Chandi Devi and Chandi Ghat identify the eastern side. The route is designed mainly for through traffic.

Connectivity of Haridwar Bypass Road

The bypass will connect the Roorkee-Muzaffarnagar side with the Chandi Devi-Najibabad side and support onward traffic towards Rishikesh and Dehradun.

Roorkee, Muzaffarnagar and Delhi Side Connectivity

Bahadrabad lies on NH-334, the main corridor towards Roorkee, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Delhi-NCR.

The existing Bahadrabad toll plaza is on NH-334 near Bongla Bypass and is part of the Muzaffarnagar-Haridwar highway system.

Najibabad, Bijnor and Moradabad Side Connectivity

The eastern end reaches NH-34 near Chandi Devi, useful for traffic towards Najibabad, Bijnor and Moradabad.

Once completed, through traffic should be able to reach this side without adding as much pressure to Har Ki Pauri, Chandi Chowk and central junctions.

Rishikesh and Dehradun Connectivity

Haridwar is a gateway to Rishikesh, Dehradun and Garhwal. From the Chandi Ghat/northern side, travellers can join the existing highway network towards these destinations.

The bypass will mainly help west- and south-side traffic avoid central Haridwar before joining onward routes. Pilgrimage-season traffic plans may still change the permitted route.

Connectivity to Har Ki Pauri and Central Haridwar

Har Ki Pauri and the railway station are inside the city. Visitors heading there must leave the bypass at the appropriate city approach.

During Kanwar Yatra and major bathing dates, police may restrict central entry and direct vehicles to designated parking areas.

Major Ganga Bridge on the Bypass

A roughly 2.5 km bridge across the Ganga is a key part of the bypass. The bridge structure was reported ready in April 2026.

The bridge alone does not make the full bypass operational; connecting highway works must also be completed.

Railway Connectivity

Haridwar Railway Station is the main rail hub and has direct links with several major Indian cities.

Autos and taxis are normally needed between bypass-side areas and the station. Extra time is advisable during pilgrimage periods.

Airport Connectivity

Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun is the nearest airport, about 37 km from Haridwar according to the district administration.

Airport passengers should check live traffic during festivals, monsoon conditions and major diversions.

Bus and Local Transport

State and private buses connect Haridwar with Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and other Uttarakhand destinations. Autos, tempos and taxis serve local areas.

Bus tickets may show Bahadrabad Bypass, Chandi Ghat, Haridwar Bus Station or another pickup. Always follow the exact boarding point on the latest ticket.

Nearby Areas Around Haridwar Bypass Road

Bahadrabad is the main western reference. Roshnabad lies nearby, while SIDCUL and Ranipur form an important industrial and residential belt.

Jwalapur lies between Bahadrabad and central Haridwar. Chandi Ghat and Chandi Devi mark the NH-34 side, while Har Ki Pauri lies inside the city.

Shops and Daily Facilities

Fuel stations, restaurants, pharmacies and vehicle services are available around Bahadrabad, Jwalapur and major highway approaches.

Central Haridwar and Jwalapur provide a wider choice of hotels, hospitals and markets.

Traffic Conditions and Ardh Kumbh 2027

Weekends and religious events can cause heavy congestion around Har Ki Pauri, Shankaracharya Chowk, Chandi Chowk, Jwalapur and city-entry roads. Kanwar Yatra brings special restrictions.

NHAI is accelerating the bypass ahead of Ardh Kumbh 2027. Advanced Traffic Management System facilities are also planned on the Haridwar-Muzaffarnagar, Spur and bypass corridors.

Current Status of Haridwar Bypass

The latest official update found, dated June 26, 2026, reported about 77% completion and roughly 9 km of four-lane road constructed.

The full Bahadrabad-Chandi Devi route should not be treated as open end to end until authorities announce commissioning.

Spur to Haridwar: A Separate Project

The 51 km six-lane Spur to Haridwar is a separate project connecting the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor with the existing highway near Bhaderi Rajputana.

NHAI reported about 92% progress on the spur in June 2026, with roughly 46 km completed. It will complement, but is not the same as, the 15 km bypass.

FAQs About Haridwar Bypass Road

Is the new Haridwar Bypass fully open from Bahadrabad to Chandi Devi?

The latest official update in June 2026 still described the project as under construction, with about 77% work complete. Travellers should not plan on using the full route until an official opening or commissioning notice is issued.

What is the difference between Haridwar Bypass and the Spur to Haridwar?

Haridwar Bypass is the roughly 15 km four-lane route from Bahadrabad towards NH-34 near Chandi Devi. The Spur to Haridwar is a separate 51 km six-lane access-controlled corridor linking the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor with the Haridwar highway side.

Will the bypass help if I am driving towards Najibabad or Bijnor?

That is one of its important uses. The bypass ends on the NH-34 side near Chandi Devi, allowing through traffic from the Bahadrabad/Roorkee side to approach the Najibabad-Bijnor direction without passing through as much of central Haridwar.

Should I use the bypass if my destination is Har Ki Pauri?

Har Ki Pauri is inside the city, so visitors will still need to leave the outer corridor and use the designated city approach. During major bathing dates, follow police parking and diversion instructions rather than choosing the route only from a navigation app.

Is the 2.5 km Ganga bridge already usable by normal traffic?

The bridge structure was reported ready in April 2026, but it forms only one part of the bypass. Normal end-to-end use depends on completion and official opening of the connecting highway works.

Will I pay toll for using Haridwar Bypass?

The existing Bahadrabad toll plaza operates on the NH-334 Muzaffarnagar-Haridwar corridor. The toll arrangement for the new bypass should be checked when the bypass is formally commissioned; the existing plaza should not be confused with a dedicated new-bypass toll.

Can bus passengers use Bahadrabad Bypass as a pickup point?

Some private services use Bahadrabad Bypass or other highway-side landmarks, while others board at Haridwar Bus Station, Chandi Ghat or central locations. Use the exact boarding point and operator contact shown on the current ticket.

Can traffic rules change even after the bypass opens?

Haridwar uses special traffic plans during Kanwar Yatra, major bathing dates and Kumbh-related events. Police may temporarily change permitted routes, parking points or heavy-vehicle movement, so current local instructions take priority over the normal route.

Conclusion

Haridwar Bypass Road is a major four-lane project intended to move through traffic between the Bahadrabad and Chandi Devi sides without sending every vehicle through central Haridwar. It will strengthen connections between NH-334 and NH-34 and is expected to reduce pressure around key pilgrimage-city junctions. The official June 2026 update placed Package-1 at about 77% completion, so the route should still be treated as under construction until formally opened. The separate Spur to Haridwar project will further improve access from the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor once completed.
